How Rorys Story Cubes Bring Out Your Creative Side

Most of us can tell a good story, given the right circumstances. Well here is a great way to create just such a situation - using rory's story cubes.

So, if you have not yet discovered Rory’s Story Cubes, they can be a tremendous fun game, as well as being  educational.

All you have to do is roll the special dice, then create a story inspired by the images on show. You could do this either on your own, or together with others, with everyone adding bits to the story. You do not have to limit yourself when playing this game; you have the freedom to make up your own rules. The more often you use them, the more you get used to learning from them and enjoy what they encourage you to create.

These cubes are very well made and are also a convenient size. For me, as a teacher of 'English as a second language', this game was just the thing I was looking for. I discovered it on Amazon and for the investment I made to own it, I have found one of the easiest and best ways to start a lesson, with students of all ages.

I also use the cubes as an icebreaker at the beginning of conversation classes, because everyone has to take a turn and say something. As all teachers know, once the first  words have been spoken, it is harder for the student to hide back in their shell.

I bought a few sets of them, so that I can use them in larger groups too, to encourage the students to speak to each other in a fun, non-threatening way. People of all ages can play this game.

Parents as well! Yes it is useful and important if the parent or teacher joins in with the game, because the students or children can learn from the way the adults think and link the images on the cubes. A teacher can use them to model different narrative techniques, or to correct previously heard grammatical mistakes.

The game is so easy to use, there are nine cubes, each with different pictures on every face. You can make up your own story, and you are free to design your own set of rules. It is really great for bringing out creativity and it is one of the best things a mother could have in her bag or purse, for those times when you are waiting around with the children, for example at the dentist or pediatrician. Why not put a set in the car or in the camper? They are so reasonably priced, especially with the Amazon savings, that you do not have to stick to one set.

Yes, this is a truly an exceptional toy, everybody has a fun time. Children can start enjoying the game as early as 3-4 years of age. It will make a great gift as a stocking filler at Christmas, or an extra present for a birthday.

Because the game is so simple, all age ranges or ability levels can play together. Little kids can play with brothers and sisters, but parents or grandparents can join in too. The more the merrier.

Once you have tried Rory's story cubes I'm sure that, like me, you will find your family and friends' creative juices flowing, while at the same time having loads of fun.
